حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أُمَيَّةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حُيَيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي صَفْوَانُ بْنُ يَعْلَى عَنْ أَبِيهِ

« الْبَحْرُ هُوَ جَهَنَّمُ ». قَالُوا لِيَعْلَى: فَقَالَ: أَلَا تَرَوْنَ أَنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَقُولُ: نَارًا أَحَاطَ بِهِمْ سُرَادِقُهَا قَالَ: لَا، وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ يَعْلَى بِيَدِهِ لَا أَدْخُلُهَا أَبَدًا حَتَّى أُعْرَضَ عَلَى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، وَلَا يُصِيبُنِي مِنْهَا قَطْرَةٌ حَتَّى أَلْقَى اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ.

Translation

✧ “The sea is Hell.” They said to Ya'la: He said: Do you not see that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says: Fire whose pavilion surrounds them. He said: No, by the One in Whose hand is the soul of Ya'la, I will never enter it until I am presented before Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and not a drop of it will touch me until I meet Allah, Mighty and Majestic.
