✧ 'Amr b. al-'As heard a man reciting a verse of the Qur'an, and he said: Who taught you to recite it? He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ. He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ taught me to recite it differently from this! So he went to the Messenger of God ﷺ, and one of them said: O Messenger of God, the verse such-and-such! Then he recited it, and the Messenger of God ﷺ said, "Thus it was revealed." Then the other said: O Messenger of God! And he recited it to the Messenger of God ﷺ, saying: Is it not like this, O Messenger of God? He said, "Thus it was revealed." Then the Messenger of God ﷺ said, "This Qur'an was revealed in seven ahruf. Whichever of them you recite, you have got it right, and do not dispute about it, for disputing about it is disbelief," or "the verse of disbelief."
