حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ عَنْ أَبِي مُنِيبٍأَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ الْعَاصِ قَالَ

أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ الْعَاصِ قَالَ فِي الطَّاعُونِ فِي آخِرِ خُطْبَةٍ خَطَبَ النَّاسَ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ هَذَا رِجْسٌ مِثْلُ السَّيْلِ، مَنْ يُنَكِّبْهُ أَخْطَأَهُ، وَمِثْلُ النَّارِ مَنْ يُنَكِّبْهَا أَخْطَأَتْهُ، وَمَنْ أَقَامَ أَحْرَقَتْهُ وَآذَتْهُ، فَقَالَ شُرَحْبِيلُ بْنُ حَسَنَةَ: إِنَّ هَذَا رَحْمَةُ رَبِّكُمْ، وَدَعْوَةُ نَبِيِّكُمْ، وَقَبْضُ الصَّالِحِينَ قَبْلَكُمْ

Translation

✧ Amr b. al-As said concerning the plague at the end of a sermon he delivered to the people: "This is a punishment like a torrent: whoever avoids it, it misses him; and like a fire: whoever avoids it, it misses him; and whoever stays, it burns and harms him." Sharhabil ibn Hasnah said: "This is a mercy from your Lord, the supplication of your Prophet, and the taking of the righteous before you."
