✧ A year of famine befell us, so I came to Madinah and entered one of its walled gardens. I took an ear of grain, rubbed it, ate some of it, and carried some in my garment. The owner of the garden came, beat me, and took my garment. I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said: "You did not teach him when he was ignorant, nor feed him when he was hungry—or starving." He returned my garment to me and ordered for me half a wasq, or a wasq.
