حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا فُلَيْحٌ عَنْ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ نَافِعِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ قَالَ
خَطَبَ مَرْوَانُ النَّاسَ، فَذَكَرَ مَكَّةَ وَحُرْمَتَهَا، فَنَادَاهُ رَافِعُ بْنُ خَدِيجٍ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ مَكَّةَ إِنْ تَكُنْ حَرَمًا، فَإِنَّ الْمَدِينَةَ حَرَمٌ، حَرَّمَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، وَهُوَ مَكْتُوبٌ عِنْدَنَا فِي أَدِيمٍ خَوْلَانِيٍّ، إِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْ نُقْرِئَكَهُ فَعَلْنَا، فَنَادَاهُ مَرْوَانُ: أَجَلْ، قَدْ بَلَغَنَا ذَلِكَ

✧ Marwān addressed the people and mentioned Makkah and its sanctity. Rafi b. Khadij called out to him and said: If Makkah is a sanctuary, then Madinah is a sanctuary; the Messenger of God ﷺ declared it sacred, and it is written with us on Khawlānī leather. If you wish, we can read it to you. Marwān called back to him: Yes, that has reached us.
