حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، الرَّجُلُ أَمُرُّ بِهِ فَلَا يُضَيِّفُنِي، وَلَا يَقْرِينِي، فَيَمُرُّ بِي فَأَجْزِيهِ، قَالَ: لَا، بَلِ اقْرِهِ، قَالَ: فَرَآنِي رَثَّ الثِّيَابِ، فَقَالَ: هَلْ لَكَ مِنْ مَالٍ فَقُلْتُ: قَدْ أَعْطَانِيَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مِنْ كُلِّ الْمَالِ، مِنَ الْإِبِلِ وَالْغَنَمِ. قَالَ: فَلْيُرَ أَثَرُ نِعْمَةِ اللهِ عَلَيْكَ

Translation

✧ I said, 'O Messenger of God, a man I pass by does not offer me hospitality or entertain me; then he passes by me, should I repay him in kind?' He said, 'No, rather entertain him.' He said: Then he saw me in shabby clothes and said, 'Do you have any wealth?' I said, 'God, Mighty and Majestic, has given me of all kinds of wealth, from camels and sheep.' He said, 'Then let the trace of God's blessing be seen on you.'
