Saad, the freed-servant of Abu Bakr

حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَعْدٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ

وَكَانَ يَخْدُمُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ، وَكَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُعْجِبُهُ خِدْمَتُهُ، فَقَالَ: يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ، أَعْتِقْ سَعْدًا، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مَا لَنَا مَاهِنٌ غَيْرُهُ. قَالَ: فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: أَعْتِقْ سَعْدًا، أَتَتْكَ الرِّجَالُ [أَتَتْكَ الرِّجَالُ]

Translation

✧ He used to serve the Prophet ﷺ, and the Prophet ﷺ admired his service. He said: O Abu Bakr, set Sa‘d free. He said: O Messenger of God, we have no servant other than him. He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ said: Set Sa‘d free; men will come to you [men will come to you].
