حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ قَيْسَ بْنَ أَبِي حَازِمٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ

أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّ فُلَانًا يُطِيلُ بِنَا الصَّلَاةَ حَتَّى إِنِّي لَأَتَأَخَّرُ، فَغَضِبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ غَضَبًا مَا رَأَيْتُهُ غَضِبَ فِي مَوْعِظَةٍ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: إِنَّ فِيكُمْ مُنَفِّرِينَ، فَمَنْ أَمَّ قَوْمًا فَلْيُخَفِّفْ بِهِمُ الصَّلَاةَ، فَإِنَّ وَرَاءَهُ الْكَبِيرَ وَالْمَرِيضَ وَذَا الْحَاجَةِ

Translation

✧ A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: O Messenger of Allah, so-and-so prolongs the prayer with us until I delay. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ became angry with an anger I never saw him display in an admonition. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Some of you drive people away. Whoever leads people in prayer should make it brief for them, for behind him are the elderly, the sick, and those with needs.
