حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ وَحَدَّثَنِي فِي الصَّلَاةِ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا الْمَرْءُ الْمُسْلِمُ صَلَّى عَلَيْهِ فِي صَلَاتِهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ التَّيْمِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ أَخِي بَلْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ

أَقْبَلَ رَجُلٌ حَتَّى جَلَسَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَنَحْنُ عِنْدَهُ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَمَّا السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ، فَقَدْ عَرَفْنَاهُ، فَكَيْفَ نُصَلِّي عَلَيْكَ إِذَا نَحْنُ صَلَّيْنَا فِي صَلَاتِنَا صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْكَ ؟ قَالَ: فَصَمَتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى أَحْبَبْنَا أَنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَمْ يَسْأَلْهُ، [ثُمَّ قَالَ]: إِذَا أَنْتُمْ صَلَّيْتُمْ عَلَيَّ فَقُولُوا: اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ النَّبِيِّ الْأُمِّيِّ، وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَآلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَبَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ النَّبِيِّ الْأُمِّيِّ، كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ

✧ A man approached and sat in front of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while we were with him. He said, "O Messenger of Allah, we already know how to greet you with peace, so how should we send blessings upon you when we have already prayed and Allah has blessed you?" The Messenger of Allah remained silent until we thought that the man had not asked him properly. Then he said, "If you have prayed upon me, then say, 'O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad, the unlettered Prophet, and upon the family of Muhammad, as You have sent blessings upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. And bless Muhammad, the unlettered Prophet, as You have blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Verily, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious."
