✧ The Prophet ﷺ was asked about a stray camel. He became angry, and his cheeks reddened, and he said: What do you have to do with it? It has its own water-container and its own water-skin; it can go to water and eat from trees until its owner finds it. He was asked about a stray sheep, and he said: Take it, for it is yours, or your brother's, or the wolf's. He was asked about found property, and he said: Note its container and its cord, then announce it for a year. If someone claims it, return it; otherwise, mix it with your own wealth.

machine translationRabīʿah b. Abī ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrates it, and there is disagreement concerning him about it, from Yazīd, the freed slave of al-Munbaʿith, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ. Al-Layth b. Saʿd contradicted him and said: "Someone with whom I am satisfied narrated to me, from Ismāʿīl b. Umayyah, from Rabīʿah and others, from the freed slave of al-Munbaʿith, from a man from among the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." The preserved (maḥfūẓ) version is from Rabīʿah, from Yazīd, the freed slave of al-Munbaʿith, from Zayd b. Khālid al-Juhanī, from the Prophet ﷺ.
