حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ الْقَيْسِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ هِلَالٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي بَشْرُ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ اللَّيْثِيُّ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ مَالِكٍ وَكَانَ مِنْ رَهْطِهِ قَالَ

بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ سَرِيَّةً، فَسَلَحْتُ رَجُلًا سَيْفًا، قَالَ: فَلَمَّا رَجَعَ، قَالَ: مَا رَأَيْتُ مِثْلَ مَا لَامَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، قَالَ: أَعَجَزْتُمْ إِذْ بَعَثْتُ رَجُلًا، فَلَمْ يَمْضِ لِأَمْرِي أَنْ تَجْعَلُوا مَكَانَهُ مَنْ يَمْضِي لِأَمْرِي

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ sent a military expedition, and I armed a man with a sword. He said: When he returned, he said: “I have not seen anything like the blame the Messenger of God ﷺ placed on us.” He said: “Were you unable, when I sent a man and he did not carry out my command, to put in his place someone who would carry out my command?”
