✧ We raided with Ruwayfiʿ b. Thābit al-Anṣārī a village among the villages of the Maghrib called Jarbah. He stood among us as a preacher and said: O people, I do not say among you except what I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say. He stood among us on the day of Ḥunayn and said, ‘It is not lawful for a man who believes in Allah and the Last Day to water his own seed in another’s crop — meaning having intercourse with pregnant women from the captives — nor to have intercourse with a previously married woman from the captives until he has sought to ascertain her being free from pregnancy — meaning when he buys her — nor to sell spoils before they are divided, nor to ride an animal from the fayʾ of the Muslims until, when he has exhausted it, he returns it to it, nor to wear a garment from the fayʾ of the Muslims until, when he has worn it out, he returns it to it.’
