What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationThey are not strong (laysā bi-qawiyyayn).

    in مسند أحمد, p. 17084

machine translationThey are not strong (laysā bi-qawiyyayn).

    in مسند أحمد, p. 17084

machine translationAbū Bakr b. Abī Maryam: strange reports (gharāʾib) predominate in his hadith, and few of the trustworthy narrators agree with him on it. His hadith are acceptable (ṣāliḥah), but he is among those whose hadith is not used as proof, though his hadith is written down.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 17084
  • Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal

machine translationThe hadith of ʿAlī is more firmly established than the hadith of Muʿāwiyah on this topic.

machine translationIt has also been found defective (muʿall) on two grounds. The first is the criticism of Abū Bakr b. Abī Maryam; Abū Ḥātim and Abū Zurʿah said: he is not strong (laysa bi-l-qawī). The second is that Marwān b. Janāḥ narrated it from ʿAṭiyyah b. Qays from Muʿāwiyah as a statement of the Companion (mawqūf). Ibn ʿAdī narrated it in this way and said: Marwān is more reliable than Abū Bakr b. Abī Maryam.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 17084
  • Abū al-Ḥasan Nur al-Dīn ʿAlī b. Abi Bakr al-Haythamī

machine translationIt includes Abū Bakr b. Abī Maryam, who is weak (ḍaʿīf) because of his confusion in memory (ikhtilāṭ).

    in مسند أحمد, p. 17084
