✧ He heard Muʿāwiyah delivering a sermon in Madinah, saying: 'O people of Madinah, where are your scholars? I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: This is the day of ʿĀshūrāʾ, and its fasting has not been made obligatory upon us. So whoever of you wishes to fast, let him fast, for I am fasting.' So the people fasted.
