✧ I set out with a companion of mine until we reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but we did not find him. So 'A'ishah gave us dates to eat and prepared some porridge for us. Then the Prophet ﷺ came, walking with a brisk, swaying gait, and said: 'Have you been fed anything?' We said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' While we were thus, the shepherd of the sheep appeared in the sheepfold, carrying a newborn lamb on his arm. He said: 'Have you delivered any newborns?' The shepherd said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then slaughter a sheep for us.' Then he turned to us and said: 'Do not think' — he did not say: 'Do not think' — 'that we slaughtered the sheep because of you two. We have one hundred sheep, and we do not want them to increase beyond that. So when the shepherd delivers a lamb, we order him to slaughter a sheep.' Then he said: 'O Messenger of Allah...'
