✧ I was among the delegation who came to the Prophet ﷺ and embraced Islam from Thaqif, from Banu Malik. He lodged us in a tent of his, and he used to come to us between his houses and the mosque. When he prayed the last evening prayer, he would come to us and not leave until he had spoken with us, complaining of Quraysh and complaining of the people of Makkah. Then he would say: "It is not equal. We were in Makkah humiliated and weak. When we left for Madinah, the fortunes of war were sometimes against us and sometimes for us." He stayed away from us one night and did not come to us until it was long after the evening prayer. We said: What kept you from us, O Messenger of Allah? He said: A portion of the Qur'an came to me and I wanted not to come out until I had completed it. He said: So we asked the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the morning: How do you divide the Qur'an into portions? They said: We divide it into three surahs, five surahs, seven surahs, nine surahs, eleven surahs, thirteen surahs, and the portion of the Mufassal from Qaf until it is completed.
