✧ When one of us no longer needed his land, he would give it for a third, a fourth, or a half, and stipulate three irrigation channels, the qusarah, and what the spring rains irrigated. At that time, living was hard, and he would work it with iron and whatever Allah willed, and he would obtain some benefit from it. Rafi’ b. Khadij came to us and said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbids you from a matter that was beneficial to you, but obedience to Allah and obedience to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is more beneficial for you. The Prophet ﷺ forbids you from al-ḥaql and says: Whoever no longer needs his land should grant it to his brother or leave it. And he forbids you from muzabanah. Muzabanah is when a man has a large amount of palm trees, and another man comes to him and says: I will take it for such and such a load of dates.'
