حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا سَلِيمُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مِينَاءَ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ

مَثَلِي وَمَثَلُكُمْ كَمَثَلِ رَجُلٍ أَوْقَدَ نَارًا فَجَعَلَ الْفَرَاشُ وَالْجَنَادِبُ يَقَعْنَ فِيهَا وَهُوَ يَذُبُّهُنَّ عَنْهَا، وَأَنَا آخِذٌ بِحُجَزِكُمْ عَنِ النَّارِ وَأَنْتُمْ تَفَلَّتُونَ مِنْ يَدِي

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. ʿAffān
  2. Salīm b. Ḥayyān
  3. Saʿīd b. Mīnāʾ
  4. Jābir b. ʿAbdullāh

✧ My example and your example is like a man who kindled a fire, and moths and locusts began falling into it while he was pushing them away from it. I am holding onto your belts (to keep you) from the Fire, but you are slipping out of my hand.
