What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationAuthentic (ṣaḥīḥ) from ʿAmr b. Abī ʿAmr.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 15344
  • Shafiʿī

machine translationThis ḥadīth is the best thing narrated on this topic and the most sound by analogy.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 15344
  • Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī

machine translationʿAmr is disputed, even though he is among the narrators of the two Ṣaḥīḥs, and so is his freed slave. Al-Tirmidhī said: No hearing from Jābir is known for him. In another place he said: Muḥammad said: I do not know of him having heard from any of the Companions, except for his saying, "Someone who attended the sermon of the Messenger of God ﷺ narrated to me." And I heard ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān say: We do not know of him having heard from any of the Companions.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 15344
  • Shafiʿī
