✧ The sun eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a very hot day, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed with his companions and prolonged the standing until they began to fall down. Then he bowed and prolonged the bowing. Then he raised his head and prolonged it. Then he bowed and prolonged it. Then he raised and prolonged it. Then he prostrated twice. Then he stood and did the same. Then he began to step forward, then he began to step backward. So it was four rak'ahs and four prostrations. Then he said: 'Everything that you are promised was shown to me. Paradise was shown to me until if I had reached out for a bunch of grapes from it I would have taken it' – or he said: 'I reached out for a bunch of grapes and my hand fell short of it' – Hisham was uncertain – 'and the Fire was shown to me, so I began to step backward fearing that it would overwhelm you. I saw in it a tall black Himyarite woman being punished for a cat that she had tied up and neither fed it nor gave it water nor let it eat from the insects of the earth. And I saw Abu Thumamah 'Amr b. Malik dragging his intestines in the Fire. They are two signs from the signs of Allah [Mighty and Majestic] that He shows you, so when it eclipses, pray until it clears.'
