حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ
كَانَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي عُذْرَةَ يُقَالُ لَهُ: أَبُو مَذْكُورٍ، وَكَانَ لَهُ عَبْدٌ قِبْطِيٌّ فَأَعْتَقَهُ عَنْ دُبُرٍ مِنْهُ وَكَانَ ذَا حَاجَةٍ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: إِذَا كَانَ أَحَدُكُمْ ذَا حَاجَةٍ فَلْيَبْدَأْ بِنَفْسِهِ، قَالَ: فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَسْتَنْفِعَ بِهِ فَبَاعَهُ مِنْ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ النَّحَّامِ الْعَدَوِيِّ بِثَمَانِمِائَةِ دِرْهَمٍ.

✧ There was a man from Banu 'Udhrah called Abu Madhkur, and he had a Coptic slave whom he manumitted upon his death, while he was in need. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When one of you is in need, let him begin with himself.' He said: So he ordered him to make use of him, and he sold him to Nu'aym b. 'Abd Allah al-Nahham al-'Adawi for eight hundred dirhams.
