حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ جَابِرًا عَنِ الضَّبِّ فَقَالَ
سَأَلْتُ جَابِرًا، عَنِ الضَّبِّ فَقَالَ: أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِهِ فَقَالَ: لَا أَطْعَمُهُ وَقَذِرَهُ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ لَمْ يُحَرِّمْهُ، وَإِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَيَنْفَعُ بِهِ غَيْرَ وَاحِدٍ وَهُوَ طَعَامُ عَامَّةِ الرِّعَاءِ، وَلَوْ كَانَ عِنْدِي لَطَعِمْتُهُ.

✧ I asked Jabir about the dabb (lizard). He said: "The Messenger of God ﷺ was brought some, and he said: 'I do not eat it,' and he found it disgusting. Umar b. al-Khattab said: 'The Messenger of God ﷺ did not forbid it. God, Mighty and Majestic, benefits many with it, and it is the food of the common shepherds. If I had some, I would eat it.'"
