حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ وَحُجَيْنٌ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ
كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَعَثَنِي لِحَاجَةٍ، ثُمَّ أَدْرَكْتُهُ، فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ، فَأَشَارَ إِلَيَّ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ دَعَانِي، فَقَالَ: إِنَّكَ سَلَّمْتَ عَلَيَّ آنِفًا، وَأَنَا أُصَلِّي، وَهُوَ مُوَجِّهٌ حِينَئِذٍ قِبَلَ الْمَشْرِقِ.

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had sent me on an errand. Then I caught up with him and greeted him, and he gestured to me. When he finished, he called me and said: “You greeted me earlier while I was praying,” and he was facing toward the east at that time.
