حَدَّثَنَا حُجَيْنٌ وَيُونُسُ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اعْتَزَلَ نِسَاءَهُ شَهْرًا، فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْنَا فِي تِسْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ، فَقُلْنَا: إِنَّمَا الْيَوْمُ تِسْعٌ وَعِشْرُونَ ؟ فَقَالَ: إِنَّمَا الشَّهْرُ، وَصَفَّقَ بِيَدَيْهِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ، وَحَبَسَ إِصْبَعًا وَاحِدًا فِي الْآخِرَةِ. وَقَالَ يُونُسُ: إِصْبَعًا وَاحِدَةً

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ secluded himself from his wives for a month. Then he came out to us on the twenty-ninth, and we said: “Today is only the twenty-ninth?” He said: “The month is like this,” and he clapped his hands three times, holding back one finger the last time. Yunus said: “one finger.”
