Chain of narrators
  1. ʿAffān
  2. Hammām
  3. Isḥāq b. ʿAbdullāh b. Abū Ṭalḥah
  4. Anas b. Mālik

✧ He sent his maternal uncle Haram, the brother of Umm Sulaym, with seventy men to Banu ʿAmir. When they arrived, he said to them: "I will go ahead of you. If they grant me safety so that I can convey to them from the Messenger of God ﷺ, then good; otherwise you will be close to me." He said: He went ahead, and they granted him safety. While he was narrating to them from the Messenger of God ﷺ, they signaled to a man who stabbed him and ran him through. He said: "God is greatest! I have won, by the Lord of the Kaʿba." Then they fell upon the rest of his companions and killed them, except for a lame man among them who had climbed the mountain. Hammam said: I think he mentioned another man with the lame one on the mountain. He said: Anas narrated to us that Gabriel ﷺ came to the Prophet ﷺ and informed him that they had met their Lord, and He was pleased with them and pleased them. Anas said: They used to recite: "Convey to our people that we have met our Lord, and He is pleased with us and pleased us." He said: Then it was abrogated after that. The Messenger of God ﷺ supplicated against them for thirty mornings: against Riʿl, Dhakwan, Banu Lahyan, and ʿUsayya, who disobeyed God and His Messenger, or disobeyed the Most Merciful.
