حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ وَعَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ
أَنَّهُ مَشَى إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِخُبْزِ شَعِيرٍ وَإِهَالَةٍ سَنِخَةٍ، وَلَقَدْ رَهَنَ [دِرْعًا لَهُ] عِنْدَ يَهُودِيٍّ فَأَخَذَ شَعِيرًا لِأَهْلِهِ، وَلَقَدْ سَمِعْتُهُ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ يَقُولُ: قَالَ عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ: يَقُولُ ذَلِكَ مِرَارًا - مَا أَمْسَى عِنْدَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَاعُ بُرٍّ، وَلَا صَاعُ حَبٍّ، وَإِنَّ عِنْدَهُ تِسْعَ نِسْوَةٍ حِينَئِذٍ

✧ He walked to the Messenger of God ﷺ with barley bread and rancid fat. He had pawned a coat of mail with a Jew and taken barley for his family. I heard him one day say—ʿAbd al-Samad said: he said that repeatedly—"There was not an evening in the household of Muhammad with a saʿ of wheat or a saʿ of grain, while he had nine wives at that time."
