حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: فَلَا أَدْرِي أَشَيْءٌ أُنْزِلَ، أَوْ كَانَ يَقُولُهُ: لَوْ أَنَّ لِابْنِ آدَمَ وَادِيَيْنِ مِنْ مَالٍ لَتَمَنَّى - أَوْ لَابْتَغَى - وَادِيًا ثَالِثًا، وَلَا يَمْلَأُ جَوْفَ ابْنِ آدَمَ إِلَّا التُّرَابُ، وَيَتُوبُ اللهُ عَلَى مَنْ تَابَ.

✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say—and I do not know whether it was something revealed or he was saying it: 'If the son of Adam had two valleys of wealth, he would wish—or seek—a third, and nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except dust, and Allah turns in mercy to whoever repents.'
