✧ We set out proclaiming the talbiyah for Hajj. When we reached Makkah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to make it an Umrah. He said, 'Had I known beforehand what I came to know afterward, I would have made it an Umrah. But I have driven the sacrificial animal and combined the Hajj and the Umrah.'

  • Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī

machine translationSulaymān b. Ḥarb objected that Qatādah and other memorizers (ḥuffāẓ) narrated it from Anas in the same way, so the disagreement concerns Anas himself. He said: Perhaps he heard the Prophet ﷺ teaching someone else how to declare the intention for Qirān (combining ḥajj and ʿumrah), and so he thought that he was declaring it for himself.
