✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions arrived in Makkah having entered ihram for Hajj and 'Umrah. After they had circumambulated the House and walked between al-Safa and al-Marwah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded them to exit ihram and make it an 'Umrah. The people seemed to hesitate at that. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Had I not brought a sacrificial animal, I would have exited ihram. So the people exited ihram and performed tamattu'.

  • Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī

machine translationSulaymān b. Ḥarb objected that Qatādah and other memorizers (ḥuffāẓ) narrated it from Anas in the same way, so the disagreement concerns Anas himself. He said: Perhaps he heard the Prophet ﷺ teaching someone else how to declare the intention for Qirān (combining ḥajj and ʿumrah), and so he thought that he was declaring it for himself.
