✧ The Jews, when a woman among them menstruated, would not eat with them or have intercourse with them in the houses. The Companions of the Prophet ﷺ asked, and Allah, Mighty and Majestic, revealed: 'They ask you about menstruation. Say: It is harmful, so keep away from women during menstruation and do not approach them until they are pure'—until the end of the verse. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Do everything except intercourse. This reached the Jews, and they said: This man does not want to leave any of our affairs without opposing us in it. Then Usayd b. Hudayr and Abbad b. Bishr came and said: O Messenger of Allah, the Jews said such and such. Should we not have intercourse with them? The face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed, until we thought that he was angry with them. They left, and a gift of milk was sent to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he sent after them and gave them to drink, and they knew that he was not angry with them.

Masharr and Abū Salamah al-Tabūdhakī narrated it from Ḥammād, from Bakr b. ʿAbdillāh al-Muzanī, as a mursal report (mursal), and that is the correct (ṣaḥīḥ) version.
