حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ
إِنَّ اللهَ [عَزَّ وَجَلَّ] وَكَّلَ بِالرَّحِمِ مَلَكًا، قَالَ: أَيْ رَبِّ نُطْفَةٌ، أَيْ رَبِّ عَلَقَةٌ، أَيْ رَبِّ مُضْغَةٌ، فَإِذَا قَضَى الرَّبُّ [عَزَّ وَجَلَّ] خَلْقَهَا، قَالَ: أَيْ رَبِّ أَشَقِيٌّ أَوْ سَعِيدٌ ؟ ذَكَرٌ أَوْ أُنْثَى ؟ فَمَا الرِّزْقُ، وَمَا الْأَجَلُ ؟ قَالَ: فَيُكْتَبُ كَذَلِكَ فِي بَطْنِ أُمِّهِ
Translation

✧ God [Mighty and Majestic] has appointed an angel over the womb. He says: 'O Lord, a drop; O Lord, a clot; O Lord, a lump of flesh.' Then when the Lord [Mighty and Majestic] decrees its creation, he says: 'O Lord, male or female? Wretched or blessed? What is the provision, and what is the lifespan?' He said: Then it is written thus in his mother's belly.
