✧ I asked Anas b. Mālik about drinking from vessels, and he said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade al-muzaffatah (pitched vessels), and he said: "Every intoxicant is ḥarām."' He said: 'I said: "What is al-muzaffatah?"' He said: 'Al-muqayyarah (pitched).' He said: 'I said: "What about lead and glass?"' He said: 'There is no harm in them.' He said: 'I said: "But some people dislike them."' He said: 'Leave what causes you doubt for what does not cause you doubt, for every intoxicant is ḥarām.' He said: 'I said to him: "You have spoken truthfully. Intoxication is ḥarām. So what about one drink or two drinks with our food?"' He said: 'Whatever intoxicates in large quantity, a small quantity of it is ḥarām.' And he said: 'Khamr is from grapes, dates, honey, wheat, barley, and corn. Whatever you ferment from that, it is khamr.'
