✧ Riʿl, Dhakwān, ʿUṣayya, and Banū Liḥyān came to the Prophet of God [peace and blessings be upon him], and claimed that they had become Muslim. They asked him for reinforcements against their own people, so the Prophet of God [peace and blessings be upon him] reinforced them that day with seventy of the Anṣār. Anas said: “In their time we used to call them the reciters. They used to gather firewood by day and pray by night.” They went with them until they reached the well of Maʿūna, where they betrayed them and killed them. The Messenger of God ﷺ then performed qunūt for a month in the dawn prayer, supplicating against these tribes: Riʿl, Dhakwān, ʿUṣayya, and Banū Liḥyān. Qatāda said: “Anas narrated to us that they recited a Qur’anic passage about them.” Ibn Jaʿfar said in his narration: “We recited a Qur’anic passage about them: ‘Convey on our behalf to our people that we have met our Lord, and He is pleased with us and has made us pleased.’ Then that was later lifted or abrogated.”
