✧ I witnessed 'Ali when he killed the people of al-Nahrawān. He said: Seek out for me the one with the defective limb. They searched for him among the slain, and they said: We do not find him. He said: Go back and search, for by God, I have not lied, nor have I been lied to. They went back and searched for him, and he repeated that several times, each time swearing by God: I have not lied, nor have I been lied to. They went off and found him beneath the slain, in mud. They extracted him and brought him. Abū al-Waḍī' said: It is as if I am looking at him: an Ethiopian with a breast on him, one of his hands covered like a woman's breast, with hairs on it like the hairs on the tail of a jerboa.
