✧ I once became extremely hungry in Madinah. I went out seeking work in the outskirts of Madinah. Then I came upon a woman who had gathered mud, and I thought she wanted to moisten it. I went to her and contracted with her for each bucket of water for a date. I drew sixteen buckets until my hands became calloused. Then I went to the water and drank from it. Then I came to her and said: With my hands like this before her – Ismail spread his hands and brought them together – and she counted for me sixteen dates. I came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him, and he ate with me from them.
