حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَمْرٍو عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ
مُرَّ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا مِنْ مَنَاقِبِ الْخَيْرِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: وَجَبَتْ، إِنَّكُمْ شُهَدَاءُ اللهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ ثُمَّ مُرَّ عَلَيْهِ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا مِنْ مَنَاقِبِ الشَّرِّ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَجَبَتْ إِنَّكُمْ شُهَدَاءُ اللهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ.

✧ A funeral passed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and they praised it highly with good qualities, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'It has become incumbent.' You are Allah's witnesses on earth. Then another funeral passed by him and they spoke ill of it with bad qualities, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'It has become incumbent.' You are Allah's witnesses on earth.
