حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو وَسُرَيْجٌ الْمَعْنَى قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا فُلَيْحٌ عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ

مَثَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِ مَثَلُ خَامَةِ الزَّرْعِ مِنْ حَيْثُ أَتَتْهَا الرِّيحُ كَفَتْهَا فَإِذَا سَكَنَتِ اعْتَدَلَتْ، وَكَذَلِكَ مَثَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِ يَتَكَفَّأُ بِالْبَلَاءِ، وَمَثَلُ الْكَافِرِ مَثَلُ الْأَرْزَةِ صَمَّاءُ مُعْتَدِلَةٌ يَقْصِمُهَا اللهُ إِذَا شَاءَ.

✧ The example of a believer is like a tender plant; whichever way the wind blows, it bends, and when the wind calms, it straightens. Thus the believer is bent by trials. And the example of a disbeliever is like a pine tree, hard and upright, which God breaks when He wills.
