حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ وَشُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ

إِذَا قَعَدَ بَيْنَ شُعَبِهَا الْأَرْبَعِ، قَالَ شُعْبَةُ: ثُمَّ جَهَدَهَا، وَقَالَ هِشَامٌ: ثُمَّ اجْتَهَدَ، فَقَدْ وَجَبَ الْغُسْلُ.

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. Sulaymān b. Dāwud
  2. Hishām and Shuʿbah
  3. Qatādah
  4. al-Ḥasan
  5. Abū Rāfiʿ
  6. Abū Hurayrah
  7. Rasūl Allāh ﷺ

✧ When he sits between her four limbs — Shuʿbah said: “Then he exerted himself,” and Hishām said: “Then he strove” — then the bath has become obligatory.
