حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَعْشَرٍ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ
لَأَعْرِفَنَّ أَحَدًا مِنْكُمْ أَتَاهُ عَنِّي حَدِيثٌ وَهُوَ مُتَّكِئٌ فِي أَرِيكَتِهِ فَيَقُولُ اتْلُوا بِهِ عَلَيَّ قُرْآنًا مَا جَاءَكُمْ عَنِّي مِنْ خَيْرٍ قُلْتُهُ أَوْ لَمْ أَقُلْهُ فَأَنَا أَقُولُ، وَمَا أَتَاكُمْ مِنْ شَرٍّ فَإِنِّي لَا أَقُولُ الشَّرَّ.

✧ I will surely recognize one of you to whom a hadith from me comes while he is reclining on his couch, and he says, 'Recite to me a Qur'an instead.' Whatever good comes to you from me, whether I said it or not, I say it. Whatever evil comes to you, I do not say evil.
