Camels are a cause of pride in their owners

حَدَّثَنَا قَبِيصَةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ أَبِي هِنْدَ الْهَمْدَانِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي ظَبْيَانَ قَالَ قَالَ لِي عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ يَا أَبَا ظَبْيَانَ كَمْ عَطَاؤُكَ؟ قُلْتُ أَلْفَانِ وَخَمْسُمِئَةٍ

قَالَ لَهُ يَا أَبَا ظَبْيَانَ اتَّخِذْ مِنَ الْحَرْثِ وَالسَّابْيَاءِ مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ تَلِيَكُمْ غِلْمَةُ قُرَيْشٍ لاَ يُعَدُّ الْعَطَاءُ مَعَهُمْ مَالاً

Translation

✧ He said to him, "O Abu Zabyan, acquire from cultivation and from the sābiyā' before the young men of Quraysh take charge of you—when the ʿatā' is not considered wealth along with them."
