حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ وَهْبٍ
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ إِنَّ السَّلاَمَ اسْمٌ مِنْ أَسْمَاءِ اللهِ وَضَعَهُ اللَّهُ فِي الأَرْضِ فَأَفْشُوهُ بَيْنَكُمْ إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ إِذَا سَلَّمَ عَلَى الْقَوْمِ فَرَدُّوا عَلَيْهِ كَانَتْ لَهُ عَلَيْهِمْ فَضْلُ دَرَجَةٍ لأَنَّهُ ذَكَّرَهُمُ السَّلاَمَ وَإِنْ لَمْ يُرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ رَدَّ عَلَيْهِ مَنْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِنْهُ وَأَطْيَبُ
Translation
✧ From ʿAbdullāh, who said: “Indeed, ‘peace’ is one of the names of Allah, which He has placed on the earth, so spread it among yourselves. When a man greets a people and they respond to him, he has a degree of superiority over them because he reminded them of peace. If they do not respond to him, one who is better and purer than them responds to him.”
