✧ I witnessed Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas. A group of people came to him concerning a slave of theirs whose spoils Sa'd had seized. He had seen him hunting in the sanctuary of Madinah, which the Messenger of God ﷺ had declared sacred, so he seized his spoils. They spoke to him about returning the spoils to them, but he refused and said, 'Indeed, the Messenger of God ﷺ said when he set the boundaries of the sanctuary of Madinah: "Whoever you find hunting within these boundaries, whoever seizes him, the spoils are his." So I shall not return to you a gift that the Messenger of God ﷺ has granted me. However, if you wish, I will pay you the value of his spoils.'
