وَعَنْ سَالِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ

سَمِعَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عُمَرَ وَهُوَ يَحْلِفُ بِأَبِيهِ، فَقَالَ: أَلَا إِنَّ اللهَ يَنْهَاكُمْ أَنْ تَحْلِفُوا بِآبَائِكُمْ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: فَوَاللهِ مَا حَلَفْتُ بِهَا بَعْدُ ذَاكِرًا وَلَا آثِرًا

Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ heard Umar while he was swearing by his father, so he said: "Indeed, Allah forbids you from swearing by your fathers." Umar said: "By Allah, I never swore by it after that, neither intentionally nor inadvertently."
