حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ:
قَالَ أُنَاسٌ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ: أَنُؤَاخَذُ بِمَا عَمِلْنَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ ؟ قَالَ: أَمَّا مَنْ أَحْسَنَ مِنْكُمْ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ فَلَا يُؤَاخَذُ بِهَا، وَمَنْ أَسَاءَ أُخِذَ بِعَمَلِهِ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ وَالْإِسْلَامِ.

✧ Some people said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: 'Will we be held accountable for what we did in the pre-Islamic era?' He said: 'As for one of you who does good in Islam, he will not be held accountable for it. But one who does evil will be taken to account for his deeds in the pre-Islamic era and in Islam.'
