حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْغَفَّارِ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ:
قَالَ رَجُلٌ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَنُؤَاخَذُ بِمَا عَمِلْنَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ ؟ فَقَالَ: مَنْ أَحْسَنَ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ لَمْ يُؤْخَذْ بِمَا عَمِلَ بِهِ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، وَإِنْ أَسَاءَ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ أُخِذَ بِالْأَوَّلِ وَالْآخِرِ.

✧ A man said: “O Messenger of Allah, will we be held accountable for what we did in the pre-Islamic era?” He said: “Whoever does good in Islam will not be held accountable for what he did in the pre-Islamic era, but if he does evil in Islam, he will be held accountable for the first and the last.”
