حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْأَشْعَثِ، أَخْبَرَنِي الْهَيْصَمُ بْنُ الشُّدَّاخِ الْعَبْدِيُّ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ وَثَّابٍ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ:

عَجِبْتُ لِلنَّاسِ وَتَرْكِهِمْ قِرَاءَتِي وَأَخْذِهِمْ قِرَاءَةَ زَيْدٍ، وَقَدْ أَخَذْتُ مِنْ فِي رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ سَبْعِينَ سُورَةً وَزَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ غُلَامٌ صَاحِبُ ذُؤَابَةٍ يَجِيءُ وَيَذْهَبُ فِي الْمَدِينَةِ

✧ I am astonished at the people and their abandoning my recitation and adopting the recitation of Zayd, though I have taken from the mouth of the Messenger of God ﷺ seventy surahs, while Zayd b. Thabit was a youth with locks of hair, coming and going in Madinah.
