✧ Maʿn b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān brought out to me a book and swore that it was in his father’s handwriting, and in it: ʿAbdullāh said: By the One besides whom there is no god, I have not seen anyone harsher against the mutanaṭṭiʿūn than the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, nor have I seen anyone harsher against them after him than Abū Bakr, and I think ʿUmar was the most fearful of the people of the earth for them, or concerning them.
