حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مِهْرَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، حَدَّثَنِي يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ عُتْبَةَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ:
رَجَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَاضْطَجَعَ فِي حُجْرَتِي فِي ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ حِينَ دَخَلَ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَجُلٌ مِنْ آلِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَفِي يَدِهِ سِوَاكٌ أَخْضَرُ، قَالَتْ: فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ فِي يَدِهِ، نَظَرًا عَرَفْتُ أَنَّهُ يُرِيدُهُ، قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَتُحِبُّ أَنْ أُعْطِيَكَ هَذَا السِّوَاكَ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، فَأَخَذْتُهُ فَمَضَغْتُهُ لَهُ حَتَّى لَيَّنْتُهُ، ثُمَّ أَعْطَيْتُهُ إِيَّاهُ. قَالَتْ: فَاسْتَنَّ بِهِ كَأَحْسَنِ مَا رَأَيْتُهُ يَسْتَنُّ بِسِوَاكٍ قَبْلَهُ. قَالَتْ: ثُمَّ وَضَعَهُ، فَوَجَدْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَثْقُلُ فِي حِجْرِي، قَالَتْ: فَذَهَبْتُ أَنْظُرُ فِي وَجْهِهِ، فَإِذَا بَصَرُهُ قَدْ شَخَصَ، وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: بَلِ الرَّفِيقَ الْأَعْلَى مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ. قَالَتْ: فَقُلْتُ: خُيِّرْتَ، فَاخْتَرْتَ، وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ. قَالَتْ: وَقُبِضَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ returned and lay down in my room that day when he entered from the mosque. A man from the family of Abu Bakr came in to me with a green tooth-stick in his hand. She said: The Messenger of God ﷺ looked at it while it was in his hand, a look by which I knew he wanted it. I said: O Messenger of God, would you like me to give you this tooth-stick? He said: Yes. So I took it and chewed it for him until I softened it, then gave it to him. She said: He cleaned his teeth with it as beautifully as I had ever seen him clean his teeth with a tooth-stick before. She said: Then he laid it down, and I felt the Messenger of God ﷺ growing heavy in my lap. She said: I went to look at his face, and behold, his gaze was fixed, and he was saying: Rather, the highest companion in Paradise. She said: I said: You have been given a choice, and you have chosen, by the One who sent you with the truth. She said: And the Messenger of God ﷺ passed away.

يرويه الزهري واختلف عنه فرواه محمد بن إسحاق وشعيب بن أبي حمزة ومعن بن أبان وخيران عن الزهري عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله وعروة والقاسم بن محمد وأبي بكر بن عبد الرحمن كلهم عن عائشة ورواه محمد بن إسحاق عن يعقوب بن عتبة أيضا عن الزهري ورواه معمر بن راشد عن الزهري عن عروة عن عائشة ورواه مرزوق بن أبي الهذيل وإسحاق بن راشد وعثمان بن عبد الرحمن وعبد الحميد بن جعفر عن الزهري عن عروة عن عائشة قال ذلك يزيد بن هارون وحده عن إبراهيم بن سعد وروي عن إسماعيل بن أمية عن الزهري مرسلا والصحيح عن الزهري عن عبيد الله عن عائشة
