I (Hudhaifah) asked: Will any be spared after the use of the sword ? He replied: There will be remnant with specks in its eye and an illusory truce. He then transmitted the rest of the tradition. Qatadah applied this to the apostasy during the Caliphate of Abu Bakr. The word aqdha' (sing. qadhan) means specks, hudnah means truce and dakhan means malice.

machine translationMuḥammad b. Yaḥyā b. Fāris narrated to us, ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us, from Maʿmar, from Qatādah, from Naṣr b. ʿĀṣim, from Khālid b. Khālid al-Yashkurī, with this hadith. He said: I said: "After the sword?" He said: "A remnant, upon impurities, and a truce upon smokiness." Then he related the hadith and said: Qatādah used to apply it to the apostasy that occurred in the time of Abū Bakr. "Upon impurities (aqdhāʾ)", he would say: impurity (qadhā). "And a truce (hudnah)", he would say: a peace settlement, "upon smokiness (dakhan)", upon grudges.
