أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا الثَّوْرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ قَالَ:
لَمَّا بَايَعَ النَّاسُ عَبْدَ الْمَلِكِ بْنَ مَرْوَانَ كَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ ابْنُ عُمَرَ: " أَمَّا بَعْدُ، فَإِنِّي أُقِرُّ بِالسَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ لِعَبْدِ اللهِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلَى سُنَّةِ اللهِ، وَسُنَّةِ رَسُولِهِ ﷺ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُ، وَإِنَّ بَنِيَّ قَدْ أَقَرُّوا بِمِثْلِ ذَلِكَ، وَالسَّلَامُ
Translation
✧ When the people pledged allegiance to Abd al-Malik b. Marwan, Ibn Umar wrote to him: "To proceed: I acknowledge hearing and obedience to Abdullah Abd al-Malik, Commander of the Believers, upon the Sunnah of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ in what I am able, and my sons have acknowledged the like of that. Peace."
